Rory MacDonald out of UFC 140, Claude Patrick in vs. Brian Ebersole

Rory MacDonald is injured and out of his fight in Toronto at UFC 140 on Dec. 10 at the Air Canada Centre.

UFC president Dana White announced Tuesday that MacDonald will be replaced by another Canadian, Claude Patrick, in the welterweight fight against Brian Ebersole. Patrick was elevated from his undercard match against Rich Attonito, who will receive a new opponent, the UFC said.

The injury to the 22-year-old MacDonald was not disclosed. He has burst on the scene, winning three of his first four UFC fights, with his only loss coming moments before the final bell against Carlos Condit in a fight that might have gone MacDonald's way had he made it a few more seconds to a decision. MacDonald is 12-1.

Ebersole (48-14-1, 1 NC) is an American who fights out of Australia. Despite his advanced record, Ebersole is just 30 years old. After a long career in many different organizations, he has found his way in the UFC, with wins over fellow veterans Chris Lytle and Dennis Hallman.

Patrick is 14-1 overall, including three wins in as many UFC fights -- none in the United States. He figures to have heavy backing from the crowd, as he hails from nearby Mississauga, Ont. Patrick also fought on the first Toronto card, earning a decision win over Daniel Roberts at UFC 129 in April.

Attonito is also coming off a win over Roberts, at UFC Live on Versus 5 in June. That fight was the welterweight debut for the contestant from the 11th season of The Ultimate Fighter, who is 10-4 overall, including a 3-1 UFC record.
