In addition to the suspension and fine, Cavalcante's win over Kyle has been overturned to a "no decision." Stanozolol, a synthetic anabolic steroid, is one that many MMA fighters have been caught using. High profile names busted for the steroid include Tim Sylvia, Chris Leben, and former Strikeforce Women's Champ Cris Cyborg, who tested positive for the steroid in December.
According to a report from MMAJunkie.com, Cavalcante's camp has already filed an appeal of the drug test result, and are awaiting a hearing date with the CSAC.
Penick's Analysis: We're likely to hear the infamous "tainted supplement" argument out of Cavalcante's camp, unless they have some other type of explanation for the drug being in his system. As Cris Cyborg found out, admitting fault, even while feigning ignorance to what one was being given, isn't going to give a fighter respite from the CSAC and a year long punishment. It's hard to imagine an explanation that's going to clear him, but that's something we'll hear in the coming months.
