Strikeforce HWGP finalist Daniel Cormier confirms broken hand suffered in KO over "Bigfoot" Silva

After notching his biggest career win on Saturday night, Daniel Cormier's spot in the finals of the Strikeforce Heavyweight World Grand Prix could be in jeopardy. Cormier injured his hand in his first round KO win over Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, but wasn't immediately sure of its severity. Now he knows, as he posted on Twitter late Monday that the hand was broken.

"Just got done seeing doctor," Cormier wrote. "Hand is broken [and I] will be on the shelf for a while. Still looking forward to finishing the tourney. Thanks for the support."

With the tournament finals targeted for early 2012, he still may keep his spot against Josh Barnett, but if the injury is going to keep him out of action for a significant amount of time, Strikeforce could plug in another alternate the same way Cormier himself was plugged in for Alistair Overeem.

UPDATE: USA Today cites Cormier's management saying he'll be out six to eight weeks and could return to training by late October or early November, which would give him time to prepare for a late January, early February finals bout.
